Hard or soft luggage?
Hard cases lock, keep shape and protect the bike in a fall; soft luggage is lighter, cheaper, narrower and far kinder in a drop. Mixed setups — soft sides plus a lockable top case — suit most riders.
Do I need crash bars for touring?
On a fully loaded adventure bike they are the difference between a bent lever and a cracked engine case in a stationary tip-over. On a road-only bike they matter much less.
