X-ring seals have less drag and hold grease longer, so they usually last longer for a small premium. On a low-power commuter an O-ring chain is perfectly adequate.
Only if the chain and front sprocket are near-new. Mixing new and worn parts transfers the old wear pattern straight into the new component.
