How to replace engine oil and filter

  1. 1. Warm the engine

Run the bike for three or four minutes so the oil drains fully, then stop it and let it stand a minute.

  2. 2. Drain

Remove the sump plug and let the oil drain fully with the bike upright.

  3. 3. Change the filter

Remove the old filter, oil the new gasket, fit hand-tight then torque to spec — usually around 12-20 Nm.

  4. 4. Refit the plug

Fit a new crush washer and torque the sump plug; overtightening strips alloy cases.

  5. 5. Refill

Fill with the manual's quantity of JASO MA2 oil, run for a minute, then re-check on the level surface.

  6. 6. Record it

Note the odometer on a service sticker so the next interval is not guesswork.
