Motorcycle oil change interval calculator

Manufacturer intervals assume ideal conditions. This adjusts for how you actually ride. Always follow the interval in your owner's manual if it is shorter.

Suggested interval

6,000 miles

About 1 change per year at 5,000 miles.

Change the oil at least once a year even if you ride less — oil degrades with time and moisture, not just mileage. Most motorcycles share oil between the engine and gearbox, so it works harder than car oil.

Choosing the oil

Use the viscosity grade in your owner's manual and make sure the oil carries a JASO MA or MA2 rating so it is safe for a wet clutch — regular car oil can make the clutch slip. Our guides cover how often to change motorcycle oil and the complete motorcycle maintenance checklist.
